Novel Antimicrobial Technology in Porous Media:
Porex Corporation

1:30PM –1:55PM

Abstract:
Novel Antimicrobial Technology in Porous Media

The prevalence of hospital acquired infections has driven advances in antimicrobial technologies. In 2003, Porex pioneered the use of antimicrobial porous media as an effective solution against bacteria and fungi. Continuing this history of innovation, Porex has developed a new and proven bactericidal technology that goes beyond inhibiting microbial growth on surfaces; it kills microbes in liquid and gas streams on contact. This technology can be integrated into our porous media for venting, filtrating, and diffusing applications in medical devices. The bactericidal technology is effective against gram positive and gram negative bacteria, virus, fungi, algae and spores. Porex will show product performance data according to ASTM 2149, which is a standard for determining antimicrobial performance under dynamic conditions, and JIS Z2801:2000, which is a standard for determining antimicrobial performance under static conditions.

We will discuss:

  • Antimicrobial
  • Bacteriostatic
  • Bactericidal
  • Porous plastics
  • Medical devices

Intended audience: R&D and marketing, Presidents and VP, Engineering Director and Managers, Engineers and Design Engineers, Program managers, Hospital executives, Materials Directors and Managers
