Abstract:
In 2012, 3M(TM) - Medical Specialties is pleased to introduce a new skin-friendly adhesive technology, silicone pressure sensitive adhesives, into its line of products for use in the design and manufacturing of medical devices. Skin is a difficult substrate on which to adhere a medical device. Too little adhesion results in device failure whereas excessive adhesion may result in skin damage upon removal. Silicone adhesives offer an improved balance of adhesion and removal over traditional acrylate and synthetic rubber-based adhesives. 3M's unique patented technology takes skin-friendly silicone adhesives to a new level in the areas of adhesion, structural stability, consistency and affordability.
We will discuss:
- Difficulty of Adhering to Skin
- Benefits of Silicone Adhesives
- Benefits Unique to 3M Silicone Adhesives
Intended audience: Medical device inventors, developers and manufacturers creating products that contact the skin
