Gerresheimer Medical Plastic Systems developed and produced the ClikSTAR® insulin pen in close partnership with sanofi-aventis. The project included optimization of the product for polymer production, conception and engineering of the mold and of the assembly, testing and packaging systems, clean-room injection molding, finishing, assembly and packaging. The production involved several complex processing methods such as laser welding of metal parts, laser welding and labeling of plastic parts, coating and pad printing. The insulin pen is not only ergonomic but also distinguishes itself by an attractive design. It was awarded with the Good Design® Award in 2009 and is available in three colors, silver, black and blue.

Polymer Welding Demonstration - Breakthrough using IPG Fiber Lasers - Booth #2889
Laser welding of polymers currently employs the rather limited Laser Through Transmission Welding (LTTW) technique which significantly reduces design flexibility especially when joints are required in transparent polymers. IPG's new welding approach using long wavelength all solid state fiber lasers removes these limitations. Relying on improved absorption in clear polymers, it is now possible to laser weld to a controllable depth in all clear thermally weldable polymers. Users benefit from the vast advantages of fiber lasers and almost all design limitations of the former technique are removed.

Kent Systems is pleased to announce their new line of luer taper fittings and an increase in their clean room capabilities, both are set to release February 2012. This new product line will supplement the already robust KENT Systems line of products.
The new luers will be offered with KENT Systems' single barb design containing no parting line on the barb nose. This design creates smoother, easier assembly without coming off the tube once in place. In addition, the luer fittings will have a smooth bore, allowing medical instruments to be easily fed through the fittings.
