Centurion is a tubular device that significantly reduces the risk of stent damage by minimising device exposure from when it is attached at final assembly to when it is removed by the physician. Centurion is attached to the distal element of a stent and balloon delivery system. It suspends the balloon and stent in its protective tube to prevent damage until it is physically removed by the physician before the surgical procedure. As a consequence, the entire distal end of the catheter which includes the stent, balloon, drug coating and catheter tip is not compromised at any stage.

An ultrasonic generator amplifies incoming electrical voltage to a high frequency signal. That signal is passed to the converter which creates frictional heat during ultrasonic welding of thermoplastic material. Due to the fully digital design internal process paramters are precisely controlled. External voltage fluctuations and temperature changes do not affect output, resulting in a very stable welding process. Additionally, larger parts can be welded with the highest available capacity of up to 6,000 Watts. Higher amplitude output can also result in faster cycle times. Internal signal generating adjustments are accomplished with software instead of mechanical changes.

Laser welding of polymers currently employs the rather limited Laser Through Transmission Welding (LTTW) technique which significantly reduces design flexibility especially when joints are required in transparent polymers. IPG's new welding approach using long wavelength all solid state fiber lasers removes these limitations. Relying on improved absorption in clear polymers, it is now possible to laser weld to a controllable depth in all clear thermally weldable polymers. Users benefit from the vast advantages of fiber lasers and almost all design limitations of the former technique are removed.
