Jean-Marc Aiache, Ph.D.,is, after 43 years of a full academic career, an Emeritus Professor of Biopharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Auvergne University, Clermont-Ferrand, France, and past-Director of this department, which was also a collaborative Centre of WHO for the Biopharmaceutical Quality Control of Drug Dosage Forms. He received in 2007 the distinction of “Doctor Honoris Causa” of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Research interests have included Biopharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics, with close relationships to the dosage forms, their active ingredients and their excipients composition, in particular prolonged release dosage form for different route of administration (oral, buccal, ocular, vaginal, and rectal) as well as all the devices and systems used for pulmonary administration. He is the author of about 200 scientific papers, five books and also an expert member of the European Pharmacopoeia (Group12, Inhalanda).

Jean-Marc Bobée is Director of “Anti-counterfeiting Strategy” at Sanofi Aventis, Industrial Affairs. In this capacity, he is in charge of the definition and implementation of the industrial anti-counterfeiting strategy of Sanofi Aventis. This includes identification and evaluation of new anti-counterfeiting technologies in the domain of packaging tamper resistance, authentication, codification, track & trace, as well as co-ordination of the corresponding development projects. Jean-Marc is a Doctor of Pharmacy by education and holds a Master Degree in Industrial Pharmacy from Paris University. He has 25 years extensive experience in international products development (galenics, analytics & technology transfer) and management of Industrial Operations interfaces (risk assessment & strategy). Since June 2007, Jean-Marc is also chairman of the EFPIA project on codification and identification of pharmaceuticals in Europe.

After heading the chemical-physical and microbiological laboratories from 1982 to 1990,Alfred Breunig became the Quality Director. In 2004, he took over the newly created position of the Director of Technical Customer Support. Alfred Breunig is Chairman of the Working Group QA “Primary Packaging Materials Made of Tubular Glass” in the BV Glas (association of the German glass industry). Furthermore, he is Chairman of the standardization committee NA 063-02-11 (“QA Systems for Primary Packaging Materials”) at the German Institute for Standardization (DIN, Berlin) and a member of the standardization committees NA 063-02-01 “Injection Systems” and NA 063-02-03 “Infusion and Injection Containers Made of Tubular Glass”. In addition, Alfred Breunig is a member of various PDA Task Forces addressing the quality assurance of primary packaging materials made of glass.

Hospital-based medical practitioner. Dr. Castot joined the Medecines Agency in 1993 as Drug Monitoring Manager. Prior to that, managed the Fernand Vidal Hospital Drug Monitoring Centre for over 15 years. Dr. Castot was President of the European Drug Monitoring Group for 4 years (2001-2004).

Mr. Field has over 18 years of medical device engineering experience, almost exclusively at start-up medical device companies. Prior to joining Safety Syringes, Inc., Mr. Field was Vice President of Engineering at Onux Medical, Inc., a company producing minimally invasive surgical devices where he contributed to the development of disposable and electronic infusion devices. Prior to that position, he was Manager of Bioengineering at River Medical, Inc. developing pre-filled disposable infusion devices. He has also held positions at other medical device companies including IVAC Medical Systems, Block Medical and the VA Medical Center in San Diego. Mr. Field holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomechanics and a Master of Science degree in Applied Mechanics from the University of California, San Diego.

After gaining a HNC in Polymer Engineering and B-Eng Polymer Engineering at the University of North London, Derek Hindle held positions of Product Designer and Senior Product Designer at Massmould Ltd where he was responsible for the design and development of new closures. In 2001, he moved to Rand Worldwide as an Applications Engineer where he ran CAD training classes for large companies like Visteon, Caterpillar and TRW. In 2004, Derek moved to UCP, which is a business of Global Closure Systems (GCS) as the Design and Projects Manager, responsible for the new product development department. In 2009, Derek was promoted to a group role and became the Global Innovations Director where he is responsible for the facilitation of creativity sessions within the GCS group and its customers.

Karlheinz Klein has more than 20 Years of international experience in the Mechanical Dispensing System environment. He started his career with Ing. After spending 15 years in leading sales positions, he founded his own company, Businessdock Outsourcing Management, focusing on sales consulting and support for the Mechanical Device manufacturer. He worked for two years with MegaPlast on a client base before joining MegaPlast in January 2009, where he is now responsible for the Pharma Division.

Daniel has a first class honours in Industrial Design & Technology from Loughborough University. With over 12 years experience as an Industrial Designer, Daniel has varied experience across a number of industry sectors, primarily within the area of pharmaceutical/medical device development. Following 4½ years working for GSK within their Inhaled Products division, Daniel joined DCA as a medical project manager (working alongside Rob). As well as leading medical and scientific projects Daniel also has a long-held interest in sustainability and eco-design. In 1996, his undergraduate dissertation, “Plastic waste management – a Designer’s perspective” was published as a series of three papers in Rapra Technology’s ‘Progress in rubber and plastics technology’ journal.

She reports out of the Alcan Packaging Pharma Center in Shelbyville, KY USA. She has been involved in pharmaceutical and medical device packaging for well over 19 years and has been on the Board of Directors for the Healthcare Compliance Packaging Council in the US for 15 years.

In 2001 he took over a senior research position at Altana Pharma/Nycomed in Constance, Germany. During this time in the pharmaceutical industry he collected ample experiences in the drug development of anti-inflammatory and cardio-vascular drugs. He is also a founder member of the CSPG (Child Safe Packaging Group) and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Meylan started his career at the graphic division of Bobst SA, the leading supplier of equipment for the folding carton packaging and flexible materials industries. After finishing his education in Electro Mechanical Engineering and Material Sciences, Michiel van der Berg started his professional career in the European Packaging Development team of Procter & Gamble in 1991. In 1995, he left the world of fast-moving consumer goods for a role in pharmaceutical packaging with Eli Lilly and Company as a Packaging Engineer and later as manager of the Global Packaging Technology and Development group. In 2001, he became director of Global Pharmaceutical Packaging Development at Tekni-Plex and has global responsibility for pharmaceutical and medical packaging development.

Rob has degrees in Design Technology and Engineering Design and has held engineering, design and project management roles within a number of major engineering and manufacturing companies in the UK. Rob joined DCA in 1998 and now has joint responsibility for medical and scientific projects, with specific focus on drug delivery devices. His experience in this area includes needle-based injection, dry powder inhalation devices, pMDI’s, intra-nasal devices, needle-free delivery and topical applicators.

Thomas Voelcker obtained his master’s degree in business administration from the University of Muenster in 1993. After starting his professional career in the product management with Kraft General Foods AG in Bremen, he worked in divers marketing management positions for the Fasson Roll Division of Avery Dennison for seven years. Here he managed the product portfolio of self-adhesive label stock for office and security applications for Europe. Since July 2001, Thomas Voelcker has been driving innovations in product, processes and innovations as a director of sales & marketing in the ProSecure business unit of the Schreiner Group in Germany. He is responsible for directing world-wide marketing and sales activities for label-based solutions of brand and document protection. In his role he is consulting global brand owners in risk analysis, anti-counterfeiting strategies and authentication technology integration.

He previously held various technical and managerial positions in Switzerland’s biggest telecommunications corporation. Manfred is a doctorate physicist and he also holds a Masters Degree from a top business school in Paris.
