Abstract:

Cardiac arrhythmias occur in up to 86% of patients, many are of clinical significance and therefore their detection is of considerable importance. Most of the countries in the world face high and increasing rates of cardiovascular disease. Each year, heart disease kills more people than cancer. By the time that heart problems are detected, the underlying cause (atherosclerosis) is usually quite advanced. Frequent monitoring of ECG helps in the diagnosis of heart problems. An electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) is a recording of the electrical activity of the heart over time produced by an electrocardiograph, usually in a noninvasive recording via skin electrodes. Now-a-days every doctor has a Personal Computer/Laptop at his hospital. The present scenario of treating an out-patient is, whenever the patient consult a doctor, he observes the patient pulse and checks the patient Blood Pressure with the handy equipment available with him. In the same way it will be very much helpful for a doctor to diagnose patient condition in a better way, if he is able to observe the ECG of the patient on the spot, without waiting for the diagnostic center ECG reports. For this sake ECG monitoring equipment must be handy and economical for doctors to have it in his office.

Infotech Medical electronics crew have developed a "USB powered 3 lead ECG Monitoring System". This particular system works with the power supplied by the USB port. USB Based ECG Monitoring System resembles a pen-drive , it is that miniaturized in design. Main features of this system are 3-lead ECG Monitoring and Heart Rate Measurement. Plug-in this module into one of the PC's USB ports and run the application software on the PC to monitor the ECG of an individual. On the other end of this device is provided by the ECG leads which needs to be attached to the patient for whom ECG to be monitored. USB Based ECG Monitoring System is not only meant for Doctors, it can also be used in our home as its usage is easy and it is affordable in both price wise and space wise. This can be used for generating ECG reports in a daily or weekly basis to carry them to doctor during the time of consultation. This helps in improving the diagnosis process for doctors.
