Ximedica Recognized with 2009 Medical Design Excellence Award

Providence, RI – April 10th, 2009 – Medical product development firm Ximedica announced today that the company has received a 2009 Medical Design Excellence Award for its work on the Life Recovery Systems ThermoSuit™.  The ThermoSuit™ is a non-invasive critical care device that rapidly cools the body’s core temperature, allowing doctors to induce a state of therapeutic hypothermia in patients who have suffered cardiac arrest. By doing so, they are able to cool vital organs to the point where they operate more slowly and require less oxygen, and limit further damage to the heart and brain. The ThermoSuit™ can lower the core body temperature to the recommended 33°C in 20 minutes or less. Ximedica was recognized for its work on the Industrial Design, Mechanical Design, Graphical User Interface Design and Disposable System manufacturing of the product, which is marketed by New Jersey based Life Recovery Systems.

Ximedica is a contract provider of research, design, engineering, and advanced manufacturing services to many of the top medical device companies in the world. The Medical Design Excellence competition is nationally organized and presented by Canon Communications of Los Angeles and is the only awards program that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the design of medical products.  Entries are evaluated on the basis of their design and engineering features, including functions that improve healthcare delivery and provide enhanced benefits to the patient.

All entries nationwide were reviewed by an impartial panel of third party judges with expertise in biomedical engineering, human factors, industrial design, medicine and diagnostics.

“Receiving the Medical Design Excellence Award is a huge accomplishment for our company”, said Dan Reifsteck, Ximedica’s Chief Operating Officer.  “This recognition reflects the talent and dedication of our staff and our commitment to producing products that improve lives and enhance our clients’ success in the medical device industry.  We’re proud to share this honor with Life Recovery Systems.”

The 2009 MDEA winners will be honored at a ceremony during the Medical Design & Manufacturing (MD&M) East Conference and Exposition, June 9-11, 2009, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
Ximedica will also be exhibiting during this conference in booth #2055.
